Before and After School Care is also commonly known as OOSH (Outside of School Hours Care). This service is provided both before and after school hours and during the school holidays for children attending primary school and aged up to 13 years. The prime focus of this type of care is recreational and sporting activities.
Before and After school care services are registered with the Department of Community Services under the Children and Young Persons Regulation 2007 (Care and Protection – Out of School Hours Care Services). They are also accredited by the National Childcare Accreditation Council (NCAC). They can be managed and operated by an individual, communities, local government, church groups, hospitals, educational institutions and schools.
Care is provided Monday to Friday before and after school and also during school holidays. The operational hours may vary between services and also according to community demand.
Staffs to child ratios are not regulated by DOCS; however, the recommendation from the National Standards for Outside School Hours Care is one staff member to 15 children.
Child Care Benefit is available to eligible services. Please enquire at the individual service for further information.
